Further Description
Cocoa and Climate Change Many cocoa farmers must find ways to adapt to the impact of climate change such as coping with increasingly erratic rainfall patterns that affect crop yields. Divine works closely with Kuapa Kokoo, the cocoa farmer cooperative in Ghana which co-owns Divine Chocolate, and provides funding through its Producer Support & Development programme to address the challenges cocoa farmers face. Kuapa Kokoo actively conserves tall forest trees, replaces old cocoa trees with new seedlings, and plants new hardwood trees. Kuapa also implements good agricultural practices to help farmers to adapt to the impact of climate change.
Divine is committed to preserving the environment and making improvements to reduce our impact on the planet. Top tips for you to enjoy chocolate while protecting the environment - Choose chocolate that doesn't contain palm oil, to help protect trees worldwide. - Look for the FSC symbol on packaging, so you know the paper or card used has been sourced sustainably. - Recycle paper wrappers, card and the foil that keep the chocolate fresh. - Buy Fairtrade, which is committed to helping farmers adapt to climate change and invest in sustainable farming methods. - Buy chocolate from certified B-Corporations like Divine which promote sustainable business methods.
Proudly Palm Oil Free Divine does not use any palm oil in its chocolate for several reasons. - Rainforests are still being cut down to plant palm oil plantations and we do not want to contribute to the impact this has on the environment and animal habitats. - Divine is also conscious that palm oil is used as a cheap oil alternative in a large proportion of processed foods we eat today, and so we choose not to add to the high level of palm oil consumption. - Natural cocoa butter is crucial to deliver the real flavour of chocolate.
