Sophie Valrose was from the South of France. Legend has it that Sophie became something of an inspiration to the women who worked tirelessly alongside her in the vineyards. Sophie challenged the exploitation of female workers who were often mistreated, underpaid and over-worked. Inspired by Sophie's story, Bijou is a tribute to her memory. Le Bijou de Sophie Valrose is produced with grapes from low-yielding, handpicked bush vines, alike those Sophie harvested herself many years ago.
In the early 1900s in southern France, most of the work done in the vineyards was undertaken by women. Nevertheless, female workers were often underpaid and mistreated. Local legend speaks of a woman who stood up and challenged this exploitation; Sophie Valrose. Inspired by her story, Bijou is a tribute to her memory. It is an authentic, dry rosé produced with handpicked grapes from low-yielding bush vines, alike those Sophie harvested many years ago.

Regional Information
The grapes are sourced from well tended, low yielding bush vines. Large rolled stones in the vineyards radiate heat and aid grape maturation while cool winds sweep off the nearby Mediterranean Sea to help keep the vines cool during the intense summer heat.

Vinification Details
The grapes are harvested early in the morning in order to preserve the grapes' fresh and balanced sugar levels. They are then directly pressed and the Syrah grape undergoes light maceration on its skins. Long and cool vinification takes place in order to maximise the flavour profile. Finally, after vinification the four varietals are blended together.
