Instructions
Hob - From Ambient. Serving size: 25g per portion/80g when cooked 60 mins for 2 servings 1. Rinse the pearl barley. 2. Place 50g barley into a saucepan with 500ml water. 3. Bring to the boil and boil for 10 mins. 4. Reduce the heat and simmer for 50 mins, until softened with a slightly firm bite. 5. Drain, rinse, and use as required. Do not reheat Tip: Cook in vegetable stock and stir in mushrooms, thyme and a little parmesan cheese for a delicious risotto.

Method: 1. Bring the water to the boil, add the pearl barley and boil for 10 minutes then drain and rinse thoroughly. 2. Meanwhile, heat a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add the bacon and fry for 2 minutes. 3. Add garlic, onion and mushrooms. Fry for 5 minutes, stirring regularly, then add the pearl barley and cook for a further 30 seconds. 4. Add the stock, reduce the heat and simmer for 35 minutes stirring occasionally. 5. Add the peas, season to taste, simmer for 10 minutes, then serve immediately with a few shavings of parmesan cheese.
